A short northern summer makes each month unique at the outpost cabins. Nature viewing, photography, fishing, hiking and canoeing opportunities change with the season, always making for a memorable trip.
Spring season in the Rockies. A great season for photography , see Moose calves graze with their mothers, flowers blossom throughout June and enjoy almost 24 hours of daylight great for photography. For fishermen late May to June is undoubtedly best for spin casting as big Lake Trout rise to the surface. Hiking and Canoeing is best from late June onwards as most of the snow has melted in the Mountains opening access to the ridges and waterways to explore.
Mid-summer with temperatures up to 25 ° C during the daytime and refreshing nights at 15 ° C. Fantastic Bird viewing and Photography, Eagles and Loons settle in for the summer and can be seen around the lake . Easy fishing for Arctic Grayling in the streams, perfect for fly fisherman, spin casters and novice anglers. The Pike are hungry at Gataga. Lakers have yet to descent into the depths. Hiking into the alpine is perfect to cool down and see some gorgeous late blooming wildflowers. Canoeing and exploring the lakes is a relaxing way to spend a late summer afternoon.
Autumn starts early in the mountains, with fall colours setting in towards the end August. Shorter days and longer nights make for massive starry night skies and a chance to catch the Northern Lights, be sure to bring your Camera. The Frog River Outpost is particularly nice to visit, as the nearby Hotsprings make for a relaxing fall soak. Fishing for big Lakers becomes easier again as the water cools and they rise to shallower waters to spawn and feed for winter.
