Our high elevation and northern latitude provide great conditions for Aurora viewing. The elusive natural phenomenon is often seen between the end of August and Easter.
Our luxurious Lodge is an ideal place for dark sky and northern lights viewing! Easily accessed from Vancouver and far away from light pollution the Muncho Lake Valley provides fabulous views of the Milky Way and the aurora borealis. Anglers, Virginia Falls tourists, and Adventurers alike will find Mother Nature’s spectacle to be the cherry on top of their epic trip!

11 year Solar cycles play a key roll in Aurora viewing 2024 marks are Solar maximum
Common Aurora colours are determined by the Oxygen and Nitrogen reacting with Solar flares striking the earths atmosphere at varying altitudes
Aurora’s can be predicted fairly accurately through Nasa Solar flare monitoring (usually most accurate 24 hours out)
The best Aurora displays are seen during dark skies around midnight and 2am.
Dates around the Fall and Spring Equinox’s and Winter solstice are some of the best
New Year’s until March is prime Northern Lights viewing. Muncho Lake provides a massive frozen playground and epic backdrop to the sky, the winters at the lodge are unforgettable! Our lake side property offers comfortable amenities, a fully licensed dining room, wood fire sauna, outdoor campfire areas and abundant recreational opportunities. The nearby Liard River Hotsprings are also a must visit. Each year we create a natural ice skating rink, cross country ski loop, Ice Bar, and the Muncho Lake Ice Runway - pristine, exclusive, fun, relaxing getaways await!
